David Crawford, M.D.

Dr. David Crawford grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1999. An excellent student, he earned his degree magna cum laude at Miami University. He eventually completed his medical studies at Ohio State University College of Medicine in 2007 and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Crawford is not one to turn away from the chance of service. He entered the U.S. Army while completing his orthopedic residency at Madigan Army Medical Center and training in trauma care at Harborview Medical Center. His service to the military continued well after he completed his residency; he served as the chief of the orthopedic clinic at Ft. Campbell in Kentucky. He was also chosen to serve as the orthopedic surgeon for the Army’s elite 5th Special Forces Group and 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR). In 2013, Dr. Crawford provided orthopedic care for U.S. troops and allies during Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

After the end of his military service, Dr. David Crawford completed a fellowship in adult reconstruction of the hip and knee at JIS Orthopedics. He remained a member of the staff even after he completed his training.

Thanks to his comprehensive training and experience, Dr. Crawford is one of Ohio’s leading orthopedic surgeons. His clinic specializes in adult hip and knee replacement surgery. He is also a specialist in anterior hip replacement and partial knee replacement which, compared to traditional replacement surgery, allows patients to recover much faster. The doctor is one of the few surgeons in central Ohio who perform arthroscopic hip preservation surgery for labral tears and hip shape correction.

Dr. Crawford embraces the latest state-of-the-art treatment approaches for orthopedic conditions. He offers biologic injection treatments, such as stem cell and platelet-rich plasma, and is a participant in a multi-center research trial on the effectiveness of the latter in treating knee arthritis. Dr. Crawford has also contributed much of his expertise to orthopedic research, having written multiple book chapters, published several research articles in peer-reviewed journals, and given presentations at national meetings.
